Train Birthday Cake
2 Chocolate, 2 Vanilla

We got a call a few weeks ago from a woman planning her son's 1st birthday party. She didn't have a set theme so she gave us free reign to come up with our own for her little boy's 1st cake. Boy, did we have fun. We decided to go with a circus train theme and couldn't be happier with the final outcome. For a little perspective, think about this: the cake board was 3 feet wide and a foot and a half deep.

Look at all the cute circus animals that Sydney made!

We covered the board in edible goodness to look like train tracks. The "grass" was made of royal icing and the "dirt" was made of cookie crumbles. It was well worth the time we put into it as it lends a whole new element to the cake.

Chocolate baby cake

Tracy, Jack's mother, had a great idea: she wanted a small, plain cake that baby Jack could eat with his hands. We made this small iced cake as a response to that. I think it's a great idea for early birthdays - you know they're just gonna stick their cute little hands in it anyway, so this was a good defensive tactic.

The L-Train has left the station.

  2. This cake was even more amazing in real-life! The time and effort you took in creating it was so clearly evident, right down to the cookie crumbles! Not only that, but the Herculean effort it took to get it out of your car that day was impressive, too! I am forever grateful that you were able to make Jack's day so memorable! You are both so talented, and I am glad this newcomer to San Antonio found you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
